**Definition-** When the possibility of an event occurring is expressed numerically, it is called probability.

Probability of an impossible event = **0**

Probability of a certain or possible event = **1**

Probability of the event not occurring P( Ē ) = **1 - P( E )**

i.e. **P ( Ē ) + P( E ) = 1**
